Day 119 How Much Longer Now?

It's Friday again, one more week down in this absurd mission, honestly, who thought of this? I certainly can't do anything half way and I did not think this thing through in it's entirety, back in January. I'm bored, hungry for some Thai food or a pizza buffet, and getting a little sick of blogging about it! None the less, despite my bad attitude, I have made it through another day, unscathed by Sonic or Mazzio's pizza. At the moment, I'm sipping funny tasting water from my new filtered pitcher and having a strange dinner of potatoes and an English muffin, with strawberry cream cheese. I'm very confused by the water, it tastes like burned plastic, it's not supposed to have any taste at all, which leads me to believe that I have not properly processed the stupid thing and am now drinking some sort of ironic toxic water caused by the useless filter. Perhaps if I had a package of Kool-aid, I could mask the taste...I really wish I had a Coke right now, I would give anything to plant my face underneath a soda fountain at the nearest Quick Trip gas emporium and end this madness! I just need some fizz, a little sugar, a little Mountain Dew, a smidge of Dr. Pepper, oh the torture of this asinine idea!

Day 47 Take Your Free Wontons And Scram Man

I have no doubt that today would have been a breakfast, lunch and dinner restaurant day, if not for this challenge and this blog. To start, I had a very early meeting, with no time to do anything but stuff a piece of toast into my mouth and go, it would have been so easy to swing through the McDonald's drive through for an egg and cheese biscuit and a sugar jolt. Second, my boss had reason for celebration and wanted to take us all out to lunch, but remembered that I am currently no fun and would not participate in the chowing down. Yes, I ruined it for everyone, my job here on earth is done! If we had gone to lunch, I'm sure we would have gone to the Mazzio's buffet, for an all you can eat pizza throw down...I'm inclined to shed a little tear right now. When I finally got home, there was a Chinese delivery menu on my door, with a coupon for free cheese wontons and egg rolls, with a 15.00 purchase! The delivery menu will not go to waste, I am going to use it as a guide for the Chinese recipes, I would like to learn how to re-create in my own kitchen. So, I'm going to add up, what I would have spent today on convenience and comfort food. The value meal would have come to about 5.60 plus a lunch buffet at 8.99 and finally, the 15.00 dollar special from the Rice Bowl for a grand total of 29.59! That's like half of my grocery money for the week. I'm really excited about all of the money I've been saving on food and I just paid off a bill, which was putting me out 120.00/month! I have saved enough money that I don't feel stretched at the thought of buying a much needed, functional phone this weekend. I'm having so much fun, that I'm not missing out on my favorite foods, because I am a master at re-creation, I'm also a much better cook than some pot smoking teenager who probably spits on the biscuits anyway. Six weeks down, go me!

Day 16 Holy Pepper Monkey That's A Hot Bowl Of Hell

So in the interest of keeping things interesting and cheap in my kitchen, I've been experimenting here and there. I must do this so as not to be seduced by the glittering lights of the Mazzio's pizza pick up counter or the lure of the Crispy Creme siren. So far my creations have worked out pretty well, until last night. First let me just say that I love Thai food, I love the heat, I love the spice, love it. Last week, at the Asian market, I picked up a very large tub of Red curry paste, which I love but have never cooked with. Look, you cannot scare me with heat, I can eat habeneros by themselves, my tongue is like a Zen monk playing poker with a dragon, I'm good. So, I decided on a very simple curry rice with vegetables, I added the curry paste, I added a lot of paste, probably like 1/3 of a cup. I knew as I did this that it would be warm, but I was in the mood for adventure.....I got an adventure, if adventure is another word for "son of a motherless goat, grab the baking soda, there's an electrical fire in my mouth." I have leftovers and  in the name of a faltering economy,I will not throw them out, I will find a way to get my money's worth, you bet your flaming, blistered gums I will.  http://www.fastfoodboycott.blogspot.com/
