Day 340 Twenty-Five Days To Go

Woo hoo, I've lost another pound and I'm starting to actually see a difference now! Today, I had Butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, corn on the cob, and Baby Bella mushrooms for dinner. The one thing that I am having trouble with is water, I used to drink several liters a day and now I'm just not thirsty. Today, I had to make myself drink water before I left the office and when I ate dinner. It's weird not being thirsty, but I'm happy that my blood sugar is normal. I feel ahead of the game here, with my healthy eating habits, on January 1st, everyone will be starting a new plan and I will be ending one phase of mine and continuing on with what I've learned....the challenge continues!

Day 189 and 190 Sad Sad Peppers

I'm back, with my refurbished personal laptop, in place of my work computer. I was a psycho last night because of my separation from said work computer, the likes of which is sitting on my desk, in my office and will stay there from now on. It has taken me all day to find a new power cord and to configure my old standby to work properly, but here I am and I am starving! Who knew ITing could make you so hungry. I have a lot to do today, first up, I'm going to see a movie and then I'm off to the garden again. Last night I was saddened to see that most of my peppers are not going to make it, the lack of rain is killing them! I found two really long red Cayenne's but they were floppy and one was dried up. I was really looking forward to the peppers and the salsa, but it may have to happen with grocery store peppers. I am sending out a fervent request for rain to save the rest of my garden, if anyone else would like to send a little shout out to save my veggies, I welcome it! Thank goodness for oodles of tomatoes and squash, next up birdhouse gourds and pumpkins!

Day 113 Five Star Garden

After today, our garden is now closed for planting, all spaces are full, no more vacancy. We have even spilled out into the space around the outside of the garden gate. We have about a gillion tomato plants, Cayenne peppers, Purple Tiger peppers, Serranos, Habeneros, banana peppers, yellow squash, patty pan squash, zucchini, cucumbers, lima beans, pie pumpkins, and cantaloupes. We are eating good this summer! Once again, my mom and I will be in the salsa canning business, although sadly, unless our luck changes, it will be made sans ghost peppers. Today, the very same people who were sold out last week were sold out again this week! What does a girl have to do to get a mouth blistering, medical/military grade pepper around here? A lady told me today that the OSU extension office has a pepper, which they are not selling and only using for medicinal purposes and requires protective equipment to handle. Hmmm, this sounds like the elusive ghost chili to me. My mother is relieved to say the least, she's really afraid that it will crawl out of the garden and attack her sensitive stomach in the middle of the night, come on mom, it's good for you! A pepper a day keeps the stroke away...I'm pretty sure, in any case there will be plenty of other peppers for magical sweat inducing salsa. Bring on the slugs and the garden gnomes we came to play.

Day 79 This Search Party Deserves A Whole Jar Of Cookies

This has nothing to do with food, but everything to do with my state of mind at the moment, as I sit here, in my living room, listening to Spring outside my open window, I hear several little children discussing my note regarding my missing pooperscooper. The note reads: "To whomever took my pooperscooper: I'm sorry that you felt the need to steal from me, I probably would have given it to you, had you asked. I'm having a really crappy week and I really liked my pooperscooper, please return it so that Karma does not rain down upon you." The kids thought the crappy week part was funny and they decided to form a search party to look for it, I even heard one of them tell his dad that I was having a crappy week to justify, leaving the yard to join the party. I have to say that I have been more upset about my missing pooperscooper than about my car but this little gesture makes me smile. I wish I had something to give them as a reward, at the moment, I have nothing, so I went outside and thanked them for looking, we have to encourage these kinds of things.
Tonight I made a dish that started out as one thing but evolved into something else. I started with butternut squash, baking in a pan, I added water, oil, and garlic, as well as the frozen vegetables I have been using this week, chipolte style. While the vegetables were cooking, I added rice and some other spices. The end result was pretty good and I have enough for lunch and dinner tomorrow, not very exciting but good stuff none the less. Perhaps I'll have to make some cookies or cupcakes for the little darlings who bring my scooper home.
