Day 126 Why Didn't I Think Of That!?!

A co-worker suggested today that my 365 day challenge, should have included 5 gimme options, so that for instance, I could use five opt ins during the year for birthdays and such. That would have been an absolutely brilliant idea, had I thought of it on January 1, but alas, I cannot change the rules mid game. Rats! I'm kicking myself right now! Anyway, tonight I'm having an odd but satisfying dinner of jalapeno stuffed olives, Australian cheddar cheese, cucumber salad, and mashed potatoes, topped off with Raspberry Mineral water. I'm happy to be here in my big chair, with my little dinner, after a long week.
Today, I checked the garden to find my little brussell sprouts growing their little cabbage heads off, the peppers are beautiful, beans must be invisible magic beans because they are no where to be found! The pumpkins are beginning to sprout as are the cantaloupes and squash. Sadly, the blueberries have gone on to their glory in another dirt farm, on another planet, they did their best, now we move on. I got nothin' else, time to get my stuffed olive on...thank you, drive through please.

Day 120 Weekend Eats And Picks

It is time again to roll out the very pretty Thai cookbook, I got for my birthday last year. I think that I'm going to make Sunday dinner out of it tomorrow and I'm pretty sure I've picked a winner. I'm going to make egg-fried rice with vegetables and crispy onions, or khao-khai pak horm-tord. Ahhh, two fresh red chilies indicated by the recipe are pretty much a guarantee of something fabulous, perhaps I'll add one more, just for giggles. I would like to use sticky, sweet rice for this concoction, but I don't know where to buy it or even if it would work as a stir-fry and the book doesn't say. I think a little bit of sweet would be fabulous with the heat, but who am I? I didn't write the cookbook.
Today, I was glad not to have to eat crappy fast food, I watched my mom and my brother spend quite a lot of money for a meal that both of them, kind of mindlessly ate, in a dirty, empty Carl's Jr. the whole thing was a little sad and disgusting all at the same time. On another note, the garden is coming along swimmingly, the peppers are standing tall, the squash looks pretty good, and the cabbage bugs have so far not eaten my brussell sprouts, can't wait to start picking stuff and am very much looking forward to a big fat tomato, round about the fourth of July.

Day 90 Three Months Down Nine To Go

THREE MONTHS without fast food or soda! My mission continues, three months is only a trimester, if I were having a baby, I wouldn't even be past the morning sickness yet. I mean it's not even a third of a year yet, it's nothing in the grand scheme of things. Still I'm proud of myself for holding out this long, even in the face of meetings set in fast food joints, birthday parties, and the cruel, cruel slurp of soda straws all around me. My next few months will be all about garden food, tomatoes, peppers, squash, beans...it's not like I don't eat these things every day anyway, but these will be uber fresh and pesticide free. OK, so it's not like things are changing really at all, but I think that digging for my food will make me appreciate what I eat in a more significant way.
I can't tally until this weekend, because I do not own scales and I will have to borrow my mom's, but I'm curious to see if I've dropped anymore weight or if I've leveled off. I'm pretty sure the initial soda ban, brought on most of what I've lost so far, dropping 1000 calories a day will do that I think. I'm also curious to add up my grocery bills for the month and compare it to my previous habits, it's too bad I've spent most of what I've saved on car repairs for three months in a row. Oh well, this is life, at least I'm not hungry!
