Day 155 Hey Mio Water People, Look Over Here!

Well, I can't say that I have gotten around to my cake today, I've been so busy catching up that now I get to get a head a little and I've spent my Saturday doing just that. Today, I will admit has been a peanut butter and ice cream day. I'm thinking of having breakfast for dinner, or maybe just another spoon full of the Jiffy butter. The fact that I was disappointed in my generic ice cream, did not stop me from finishing the pint, remind me never to buy Banana split ice cream, regardless of the brand, I do not like it Sam I am. I was expecting lots of stuff in it and all I came up with was jack, nada, just some old ice cream with swirls in it, who wants that? OK, like I said breakfast for dinner, think I'ma do me up some biscuits and gravy, maybe a little egg action with mushrooms? It all sounds so promising, I can't decide.
While we're on the subject of nothing and everything all at once, I would like to rhapsodize on my new favorite thing, Mio, the water flavor. I like this Mio, but I do not prefer the strawberry-kiwi flavor. This week, I bought the peach tea flavor and it's yummy. It doesn't have any sugar or aspartame in it, so I deem it gooooooood! Maybe if I talk about it, they'll send me some free samples! I love Mio, send mio free Mio!

Day 76 Breakfast In A Van Down By The River

Well, I really didn't have to worry about whether or not the food at the retreat fit into my little challenge here, because there wasn't much of it. It wasn't restaurant food, that's for sure, when we rolled past the Yoga barn at 8:30, I had high hopes for fresh, organic, spa food as the website would lead one to believe. In fact, the quality of this non-existent food and the fact that it was free was the reason I chose to allow this food into the challenge. No health concerns, no financial concerns, fresh, wholesome, organic, those were the words. Instead, "breakfast" was a van full of rice crispy treats, goldfish, Gatorade, and water....and we had to dine outside in the cold and the mighty, mighty wind. Lunch was like 5 hours later, inside this time, but no vegetarian options and no room at the table (I balanced my junk on my lap). I had a cheese sandwich on white bread, which I had pulled the ham off of, a bag of sunflower seeds and nuts, and some dried up old packaged cookies. This sad excuse for lunch also managed to offend me with an orange, which I gave to my co-worker in exchange for a granola bar. (If you'll remember, I have that table rage for citrus). I was still hopeful for dinner, which I thought was going to be in an actual dining room, and I had been promised a vegetarian option, no such luck! It wasn't even on site, it was some greasy spoon burger joint about 10 miles away. Someone had ordered me a salad and a baked potato, which I cancelled as soon as I walked in the door, I was a jerk, I didn't want a salad and a baked potato. If I wanted a salad and a baked potato, I wouldn't eat it in a restaurant, I would make it fresh in my own kitchen and it would be prepared within my control in regard to salt, butter, salad dressings, and ingredients. So, I give two bit fat thumbs down to the Canebrake resort, you can take your pitiful excuse for a catering gig and send it on down the zip line.

Day 46 IHOP Into The Kitchen To Make Breakfast

The best thing about my day, today, was the roasted squash I had for breakfast...that's right, I had squash for breakfast! I woke up with plenty of time to spare, an aging yellow squash in the fridge, and the realization that today was going to be a very long day, with little time for lunch, so I made squash. I sliced it, tossed it in olive oil and Italian breadcrumbs and stuck it in the oven, it roasted while I dried my hair. I don't think there's anything wrong with vegetables for breakfast, it's certainly healthier than Crunchable smack jacks with marshmallows and chocolate covered sugar cubes. While I was growing up, I always preferred a sandwich or leftovers from the night before, to muffins or sugary cereal for breakfast. In my quest for how the rest of the world eats breakfast, I discovered www.mrbreakfast.com which is devoted to nothing but the preparation of the first meal of the day. I found a universe of recipes for omelets, quiche, scrambles, and souffles. I have to say, that I am most intrigued by the chili onion oatmeal, once again, an alternative option to a food that is traditionally sweet, I can't wait to try that one. There's even a section on crock pot breakfasts, where I found crock pot Omelet casserole, I love breakfast! One early morning recipe I can't quite wrap my mind around, is beans and toast...I don't get it, beans are good, toast is good, but I think never the two should meet. I think tomorrow I will start my day with a whimsical sounding recipe, Eggs Piperade, basically a garlic and bell pepper omelets, I just like the name, sounds like a fun way to start the day. Eat your veggies...for breakfast!

Day 23 Apples Shmapples

Today, I returned from the grocery store with something new, apples. I know, apples are as old and as common as the snakes that push them. Apples are new as far as my grocery list is concerned. I do not prefer them and generally just like to look at them or smell them in candles, but this week, I am going to eat them, along with a bunch of other fruit. I am adding fruit to my repetoire and I'm going try and choke some down every morning. Before I stopped eating out, I rarely consumed fruit, aside from the occasional grape or strawberry, but since I am broadening my experiences, I'm going to find a way to make apples enjoyable and edible. I'm thinking smoothies may be the way to go on this one, which means I may have to get up earlier, not neccessarily a bad thing. Breakfast is the one meal I miss grabbing on the way to work, every day I used to have an egg and cheese buscuit from McDonald's, a hashbrown or two, and a big fat Coke, so greasy, so buttery, so full of fizz and sugar. Ok, enough of that! I'm proud to say that I was 5.00 under budget for groceries today, coming in a 95.00 which should last for about 2 weeks! I am rocking the money saving vibe with this project and still had money left from my last paycheck (a new thing). I also attacked the fridge and have a lovely open space for the tons of vegetable projects scheduled for this week....including the one I've been eyeing from afar. So, my goals for this week, face my fear of fruit, create some new recipes, and celebrate my monthlong victory! Only 11 more to go!
