Day 97 KFC VS. Me

Tonight we celebrate a family's graduation from our services, which usually includes fast food. We buy the food, the family eats the food, and in the old days, I would eat as well, not so tonight. They have requested KFC vegetables and a pizza. Let me just say, that I LOVE KFC's side dishes. I love the mashed potatoes, I love the corn on the cob, the biscuits, the mac & cheese, love it all. Tonight, I will comfort myself with visions of grocery store excursions, which will take place later tonight. I'm dreaming of gallons of milk, loaves of bread, bags of lettuce....nope, not the same thing, perhaps I should attempt to re-create a KFC meal in my kitchen tonight. Yes, that's exactly what I plan to do. I will bake the biscuits and boil the corn, YES I will! Let us not forget the beans and the tater babies, if only I could re-create tater babies, but I think the chain has the corner market on those precious spears of potato love.
Dinner dreams aside, for lunch today, I made some fabulous guacamole, right here at my desk, complete with lime juice and everything, who needs a kitchen, when you have a fairly clean desk? I now have leftover limes, not sure what to do with those? Maybe some sort of beverage..hmmmm? Perhaps key lime pie is in my future? Who knows, I just know I'm eating well tonight!

Day 61 Somebody Toss That Girl A Cracker

Wow, all I can say about today, is that if I had known what kind of day I was stepping into, I would have brought along provisions or at least a scrap of bread. I thought I was being proactive, eating an egg sandwich for breakfast and bringing a bottle of water to court. It's almost 7 pm and I have yet to eat lunch, which would usually mean a call to Domino's on the way home, but even in starvation mode, I will not break! Many times today, I drove past the pizza buffet, each time telling myself that I would be back in my office soon, to retrieve my abandoned hummus, each time was a lie. I was so hungry, I'm pretty sure my stomach thought my throat had been cut. So here I am, finally home, a homemade goat cheese pizza in the oven, a peaceful night ahead, and a cute new haircut to go with my new smaller clothes, not a bad ending to a questionable day.
On a gardening note, along with a plethora of vegetables, my mom and I plan to get into the ground, we have also decided to plant gourds...for the county fair. That's right, I'm gonna take on the blue haired set in vegetable presentation. I don't know if gourds are edible, but I will soon find out! If I can't eat them, I'll just have to decorate the hell out of  them. I'm also thinking of entering my homemade salsa if there's a category for heat, yes there will be fire and maybe blisters, judges beware and bring your chapstick.

Day 21 The Pears Live Next to the Peas

One could describe me as disorganized, I know, those close to me, reading this are shocked! I have been known to eat off of pot lids, when all the other plates were being employed as art trays, or to eat cereal out of a take out container, at critical moments. I am often missing vital kitchen items, so that when I have company, they must bring their own bowls and sometimes spoons. I also sometimes get frustrated, while washing dishes and will just throw things away, leaving me with maybe half a setting of plastic gas station cups.Until recently, my cabinets and drawers had always been a mishmash of canned food, dishes, art supplies, books, and cell phone chargers. About 3 months ago, I discovered that when my kitchen was disorganized, I was more likely to avoid it and to grab something to eat on the way home. There have literally been months, when I have not made a thing in my kitchen, which were probably my most expensive times, food wise. I began to slowly put things into their place and discovered that I enjoyed cooking in my kitchen when I could find my stuff! When the cheese grater was in it's place, I didn't mind shredding a block of cheese for a recipe. When the dishwasher was unloaded of clean dishes, I could add the dirty dishes as I went and keep my space uncluttered for creating. I am not by any means cured of my hodgepodge mentality, I have to keep a tight grip on that pony because, it does not take much for the disorder to come back. During this experiment it is especially important to keep things compulsively organized because if I can't cook, I don't eat, it's that simple. So, as of now, the canned foods are all together, and quite happy, the herbs and spices are in their fragrant little community, and the dishes are stacked calmly in their cabinets. Tonight I made Spinach Goat cheese pizza in an uncluttered and happy space and it was pretty good! I believe that order in one area spreads to order in another and this will be the beginning of a lot of good changes in my life.
