Day 364 The End Is Near

One year ago tonight, I was having my last soda and eating Taco Bell slop, how was I to know the changes that were to take place over the next 365 days? Tonight, I am ending my year with fruit and maybe a little cheese. Tomorrow, I'm having traditional black eyed peas for luck. I will not elaborate this New Year's eve on the lessons I have learned and the trials I have overcome, I will save that for tomorrow, my last fast food boycott blog. Tomorrow, I will reveal my new challenge for the year ahead and hope that you will follow me through the next 365 days!

Day 362 and 363 The Countdown Begins

Wow, I'm pooped! Yesterday was move day and due to miscommunication with my Internet service, I was unable to blog last night, so here I am doubling up again. Yesterday, I barely had time to scratch my butt much less eat three healthy meals. I didn't even eat breakfast until almost 1:30, which actually doubled as lunch, NOT acceptable. I moved into my house with no groceries and I had a house guest for my first night! My cousin and I went grocery shopping and christened the new fridge with all kinds of healthy goodness. This morning we had oatmeal and fruit together in the beautiful kitchen. I love my new house!!! OK, gotta keep moving!

Day 361 Moving on Up

Today, I'm trying to keep things light, as the scales have not moved this week! Well, I try to keep things light on most days, but today I've had juice, fruit, roasted veggies, a cheese sandwich and an avocado.  Tonight, I have Brussels sprouts but I don't really want to mess up my spotless oven, before I move out tomorrow, so I may have a Naked Juice from Whole Foods. Tomorrow, I can use my brand new juicer in my brand new kitchen, YAY!!! I really need to go grocery shopping after everything is in place, I have one tiny box of food to move. I can't wait for the new year and new beginnings!

Day 360 Prunes Ahoy!

Well, only five days left of this challenge and then on to the next! For breakfast I had prunes again, (I got prunes in my stocking, thanks Santa for the fiber). For lunch, I was at my mom's who had a ton of Christmas dinner leftovers, but I only had a cheese sandwich and broccoli salad....and a cookie. Tomorrow, I pick up my key for the new house, I'm so excited! I'm also seeing an old friend, who never, ever comes to my neck of the woods and with whom I will NOT be having coffee, due to continuation of said above mentioned challenge. If she were to stay until New Years, we could do Starbucks on January 2nd! Now that not eating out has become a habit, I will probably limit myself to really good restaurants, the occasional coffee house and the very rare sub shop. I will never return  to my old, unhealthy ways, ever, ever, ever......ever again.

Day 359 Back To Reality

I can't say that today's menu was all that exciting, but I'm glad to have holiday temptation off the table. Today, I had oatmeal, prunes, bananas, a loaded veggie sandwich, and roasted Edamame beans. I've decided to end this challenge by making traditional black eyed peas and corn bread next week and I will reveal my new challenge on the 1st! Today was all packing from sun up to sun down, tomorrow is more of the same and hopefully everything will be ready by Thursday!!! I am taking no groceries into my new house until my kitchen is set up perfectly and in pristine order. I can't wait to stock my new fridge, it's so shiny and pretty. Back to the grind people, it's time to pick out a new resolution!

Day 358 Thank You Santa!

Today, Santa brought me a Jack Lalanne juicer and I am so excited, I could scream like a rotten toddler! It will juice whole apples, without slicing and it came with a recipe book. I will now take juicing to a whole new level in the New Year! I also got new boots, a purse organizer, and a key finder, among other things. Today was a great day, although I ate way more than I usually do. That's OK though, tomorrow, I return to the land of the healthy and congratulate myself on maintaining throughout the holiday season, from Thanksgiving until today! Tomorrow I finish packing and get ready to move this week, can't wait to occupy my new kitchen. Merry Christmas Everyone!

Day 357 Dirty Santa Made Me Eat The Candy

Yes, I ate the candy, and a cookie, and a piece of pumpkin pie! I admit it, but I also stuck to the plan all day, I had nutritious food for every meal, even dinner was a rainbow of vegetables. I treated myself to a few Christmas treats but I did not go overboard. Tomorrow, I plan to do the same thing I did today, I will keep driving the nutrition bus, even as it careens off the road into the land of fudge and gingerbread. My philosophy is that as long as I get all of the healthy stuff I need first, I can have a little fun during a special occasion. Tomorrow is going to be the best Christmas ever and the coming year is going to be the best of my life, I can already tell!! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Everyone! I'm off to leave Santa a healthy spoonful of natural peanut butter and some broccoli for his reindeer!

Day 355 and 356 Holiday Shinnanigans

We are coming down to the wire here folks 9 days left! Today, I barely had time to eat, in between work, signing my new lease, making Carmel corn with my mom, and Christmas shopping, but I managed. I ate corn, broccoli, and Edamame beans...with a fork....while driving......was this distracted driving or efficient eating? Who knows, but I ate it without being pulled over. Yesterday was pretty much the same, just trying to finish everything up before Santa comes, whilst shoving raw fruit and veggies into my mouth. Tomorrow, I have to make the chocolate sweet potato torte for my Grandma's Christmas eve shindig! I have yet to shop for the ingredients. Guess that's about it, now I wrap.

Day 354 All Juiced Up And Twirly Eyed

Today, for breakfast I had naked juice and cheese, I had a big lunch with yogurt, bananas, cheese, and avocado, and for dinner, I had rice and veggies. All of this food and yet my head is spinning like a Tilt-a-whirl! I feel like I haven't eaten for days! Not sure what's going on in my noggin, but I wish it would stop twirling my eyes around in my skull. Well, only 11 more days till this challenge comes to an end! People keep asking me if I'm going to continue and the answer is yes! I will allow myself regular restaurant food every once and awhile but I will not partake in fast food, unless it is the very rare Subway sandwich or salad. Stay tuned for further clues on my new challenge, I'll give you a hint, it's another healthy goal! Chew on that for awhile.

Day 353 I Am Stronger Than Three Pizzas Tall

Today, we had a graduation ceremony for one of our families and celebrated with pizza and bowling, I of course did not eat the pizza. I smelled the pizza, I looked at the pizza, I fantasized about the pizza, I endured good natured ridicule and razing about the pizza, but I did not eat it. I was stronger than the smell of cheese and crust and fat and grease. Also, I learned that one hour of bowling burns about 200 calories, double score! For dinner, I had left over chili again, along with a kiwi and an orange. Everyone knows how much I hate oranges but I had to eat the orange to remove the taste of kiwi from my tongue, that's pretty bad. I'm pretty pleased with myself right now! My challenge is drawing to a close and in a few days, I will reveal my new 365 day challenge...hold your breath!

Day 352 Chocolate Sweet Potato Torte

I've been searching for a unique Christmas recipe this week and I think I've found it in a Vegetarian magazine. It's a chocolate sweet potato torte and it looks fabulous in the picture. The chocolate is mixed with the sweet potato so it's kind of like a fudgy type of business. I usually make my pineapple coconut chess pie, but staying with the theme of adding vegetables to every possible recipe, this is what I have settled on. Tonight, I had leftover Black Ghost chili and it was just as spicy as it was yesterday. I think that next time, I'm going to add a bigger sliver of the pepper or maybe just swoosh the whole thing around in the chili and see what happens heat wise. After I master the perfect chili blend, I'll work on the hottest salsa in all of creation.

Day 350 and 351 Now That's A Spicy Bowl Of Black Bean Ghost Chili!

Yesterday, I stood amongst the hopeful and the desperate to win the 10,000 Christmas raffle in the town where I work. If you shop in local stores, they give you tickets, one of which is the big winner. I did not win, but I did have a hot chocolate in the 55 degree weather, while I waited for my prize. After the raffle, I went Christmas shopping with my brother and so, did not have time to make the pot of ghost chili, I had planned for Saturday. I did make some with Black beans tonight! I added a tiny, tiny sliver of the pepper to the pot and it for sure spiced it up! It was not unbearable to me, but it would have been for most people, I thought it was just right. I lost the little piece in there, so I'm a little wary of catching it unaware, when I have another bowl. Wow, my nose is a little runny and my eyes are a tad watery but all in all, I would call my first ghost chili experience a success, I didn't throw up and I'm not dead! I shall call my recipe Black Ghost Chili.

Day 349 Ghost Chili Has Arrived I Must Be Near The End

Today was our office holiday party and I received the best present ever, a bag of dried Bhut Jolokia peppers, otherwise known as ghost peppers. If you have followed my blog at all, you will know that I have been on an endless search for the hottest pepper on earth and now I have found it! I have opened the bag, I have sniffed them, and finally, touched the tip of one to my tongue and it was like a bee sting! I have plans for these ghost peppers, tomorrow, I am going to make chili and I'm going to add the smallest sliver to a whole pot and see what happens, stay tuned....
In other news, I just finished adding up the very conservative plate of food I ate for lunch today, at the party and am happy to say that I have remained faithful to mindful eating. I ate breakfast this morning, so as not to go to the lunch, starving and vulnerable. I chose carefully, small portions of the things that I really wanted to eat and ate slowly and thankfully and I was satisfied. I even had a Nutella cookie for dessert and it was divine. I believe that it's like driving a car in a skid, no matter what, you must keep driving the car, it's the same with eating healthy, no matter what is happening, you must keep a firm grip and be mindful of the situation.

Day 348 Potluck Watoosie

I realized around 5:00 that I had no clue as to what I was going to create for my office potluck tomorrow and so, I made a mistake born of panic. I rushed to Whole Foods after work, to find nothing interesting except a long grain rice concoction, with cranberries, raisins, walnuts, and figs, it looked pretty good, so I bought. It sounded a little hard when I rattled the container, so I tasted to make sure that I was bringing something good. It was so not cooked, it was like 3 day old, leftover fried rice, gross. I took it back to Whole Foods and got my 21.00 back and then proceeded to spend 28.00 on broccoli salad fixins. I did not use all of the ingredient so I will be eating the overage this weekend, without a doubt. I took a picture and it looks pretty good! I am not adding the secret dressing until tomorrow. I even found a Christmas bowl to put it in! I shall name it A Christmas Broccoli.

Day 346 and 347 Eggplant Enchiladas

Mmmm, I am happy and full of squash at the moment, it was a very good day food wise and I am happy with my edible bounty. Yesterday, I discovered something delicious at Whole Foods I found the recipe and am going to make it for myself, they were eggplant enchiladas in the hot food area. I bought a small bit to go with my salad and it was honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten! I literally could not get the fork to my mouth quickly enough, I almost ate my own hand. I don't even really like eggplant but this was really, really good! I found the recipe in an LA times article and I'm stealing it! So, here  it is:
Total time: About 1 1/2 hours

Servings: 4 to 6

Ancho sauce

4 dried ancho chiles

3 large cloves garlic, unpeeled

1 teaspoon dried oregano

3/4 teaspoon coarse sea salt

1. Remove the stems and seeds from the chiles and place the peppers in a glass bowl. Pour boiling water over to cover by 3 inches and let them soak until very soft, about 30 minutes.

2. Drain the peppers and place them in a blender with the garlic and oregano. Strain the soaking water and add 1 1/2 cups to the blender. Puree until smooth. Strain the mixture through a sieve into a clean, shallow pie plate; season with salt and set aside.

Enchiladas and assembly

4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 medium onion, diced

1 medium red pepper, cored, seeded and cut into 1/2 -inch dice

1 teaspoon coarse sea salt, divided

1 medium white eggplant, peeled and cut into 1/2 -inch dice

2 long, slender zucchini, trimmed and cut into 1/2 -inch dice

2 teaspoons dried oregano, preferably Mexican

Day 345 Round II Coming Soon

Well, that was a switch up! I had spaghetti for dinner tonight and I have not had any sort of pasta in a really looooong time. It was really good and luckily, I had a really lite, fruity lunch, so no harm done. I also had coffee today, haven't had that in quite a while either and it was spectacular! So, I'm down another pound and, I'll probably be hitching up my new jeans again pretty soon, can't wait! Someone told me today, that she and her husband were thinking about eliminating fast food in the next year and my mom challenged me to year two! I don't think I'm going to go back to fast food but I'm kinda done blogging about it and I'm really happy to have influenced others. It won't be long now until my new 2012 challenge will be revealed, stay tuned and follow me next year for more healthy thrills!

Day 344 Pretty Grub

Whew! It's been a super productive day and now I'm typing with olive oil covered fingers to tell you about it. I packed nearly my whole house today, organized my important papers, grocery shopped, and made a very lovely dinner, so lovely in fact that I took a picture.

I know, I eat Brussles sprouts almost every night, but they are rarely this attractive on a plate.
I also bought some for realz vitamins today, no more gummy crap for me! Here's hoping for another healthy, productive week!

Day 342 and 343 What Kind Of Mickey Mouse Vitamin Is This?

I love having the whole weekend to cook and to spend a little more time on nutrition then I get to spend during the week. Yesterday was kind of a short day but I was still very busy and didn't have time to juice anything. Some days, no matter how hard I try, I cannot get all of my fruits and veggies in. Yesterday was one of those days, I had some but not all of what I needed veggie wise. Today, I started off with four carrots, an apple, a cup of cranberries, and a bowl of steel cut oatmeal. For lunch, I had two bananas, a Greek yogurt, a piece of Swiss cheese, two pieces of Whole grain bread, and two table spoons of peanut butter. For dinner, I'm having Brussels sprouts, baked squash, and corn on the cob. This seems pretty well rounded but I'm still short on Calcium, Iron, and Potassium, even after a multi-vitamin! I think I need a different, higher quality vitamin, as this one only contains 20% requirement for Calcium, and no Iron or Potassium at all....stupid pseudo-gummy supplements.

Day 341 I Do Not Prefer The Pear

Today, I had a pretty good plan for lunch, but it turned out to be only half a plan and half a dirty, rotten, under-ripe disappointment. As everyone knows, I do not relish fruit, but I eat it because it's healthy and it must be done. For lunch I packed a half a peanut butter sandwich on wheat bread, an orange (loath them), and a pear. I was pretty excited about the pear, as something to help wash down the orange, but my excitement was premature. I don't remember the last time I ate a pear, but it's been a while, I saw them at the grocery and thought they were a good alternative to my usual Granny Smith Apples. This particular evil pear was a trickster, it looked OK, green, firm, looked like a pear, but when I cut into it, I had to saw it with the knife, I sawed and sawed and sawed until Carpel tunnel syndrome set in. I sawed for quite a while and finally had to get down to the business of eating as I had an appointment to get to. I tried to eat said pear, but it was like chewing on someone's empty soul and tasted about the same, I had to abandon the effort and toss it. The good thing is that the orange was pretty tasty after the pear, perhaps the universe is shifting.

Day 340 Twenty-Five Days To Go

Woo hoo, I've lost another pound and I'm starting to actually see a difference now! Today, I had Butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, corn on the cob, and Baby Bella mushrooms for dinner. The one thing that I am having trouble with is water, I used to drink several liters a day and now I'm just not thirsty. Today, I had to make myself drink water before I left the office and when I ate dinner. It's weird not being thirsty, but I'm happy that my blood sugar is normal. I feel ahead of the game here, with my healthy eating habits, on January 1st, everyone will be starting a new plan and I will be ending one phase of mine and continuing on with what I've learned....the challenge continues!

Day 339 Occupy Your Kitchen

I have discovered the "Eat more Kale" guy and I want one of his shirts. He is being sued by Chick-fil-e for use of the phrase, Eat more Kale", which is ridiculous. In honor and solidarity, I had kale for dinner tonight, along with some other stuff. I cannot tell you how angry this makes me that a giant fast food corporation can screw with a farmer about something so stupid. I'm adding his website to the bottom of my blog, go buy a shirt from him and boycott Chick-fil-e while you're at it. It's time to occupy your kitchen, stop contributing to the fast food shinnanigans and take control of what you put into your body.

Day 337 and 338 Too Cold For Salad

Yesterday was non stop packing all day, interrupted by lunch at my Grandmother's. We had squash, corn, and potato soup, or starch, starch, and starch, it was all very tasty though. Today, it's very cold and the big salad I had for dinner didn't quite make me happy and warm, as I had anticipated. I still have ingredients to make chili and I think that this is my plan for tomorrow night. My house does not feel like Christmas, it feels like a refugee camp and I don't see an improvement until moving day. I can't wait to be settled somewhere else and cooking in my new kitchen. Today, I bought cookies for a DHS worker whom I unintentionally stood up last week at work, I probably should have made them, they would have been much tastier. That is all on the food front for tonight, here's to good health and real butter.

Day 336 I Don't Need Your Chocolate Fountain

Well, I made it through another stupid restaurant ordeal today. This time it was a celebration for a kid, so I sucked it up and watched two people eat chocolate covered marshmallows from the chocolate fountain, along with 1000 other lovely food items from the barfey. It really is kind of gross to think about all the people who have sneezed, wheezed, and pawed at the food on a giant barfey like the one at Golden Corral. Before I left, I had Quinoa, butternut squash, and marinated artichoke hearts with olives, it was OK, but I really want something buttery and cheesy, perhaps this means that I need calcium, I'll have some yogurt and almonds to fix it. It's already 4:00 and I have yet to begin the packing I had planned for this weekend, guess I should get started.

Day 334 and 335 Company Christmas Fatfest

Well, I've not much time for eating with all of the packing I'm doing! I wonder how many calories I can burn boxing up junk drawers? Yesterday was more of the same, eating vegetables and putting things in boxes and this will continue until the end of the weekend and well, straight on through Christmas. Tonight, I have a company Christmas party and I have prepared myself well. It is taking place at McNellie's and being a resteraunt, I will not be partaking of this illustrious celebration, food wise anyway. There will also be free drinks, also off the table for me, so for dinner, I had something really filling and energy packed. I had Steel cut oatmeal with almonds, peanut butter, honey, and cranberries to hold me over and to hold off temptations. Like I would cave to temptations on day 335, I would sooner post my credit report on a billboard. That is all for now, I'm off to watch people eat and drink their way to a fatter pair of Christmas pants.

Day 333 Lucky Day Extravaganza

Today was a good day and the coming year is going to be the best ever! I'm really excited about new beginnings and new opportunities. Today, I saw the house I want to move into, it's beautiful, it has a beautiful kitchen, a fabulous back yard, and an awesome fridge. I can't wait to start cooking in there and I'm super psyched that the kitchen has a giant window to the backyard, where I plan to grill vegetables at the first sign of post winter warmth. I really miss living in a house, I will say goodbye to apartment living without the hint of a tear.I am so lucky and I feel that life is beginning to straighten out a bit, it's been a long time coming. I have already started day dreaming about my first dinner party with co-workers and friends, already planning the menu in my head. So happy that better days are on their way.

Day 331 and 332 Here's An Idea

Uuuhhg, I'm ready to wind this challenge down, not because I want to sabotage my health efforts but because I want to take a little break from thinking up headlines every night! I did not blog last night because I couldn't think of a headline and I just didn't want to. I had a great first day back at work, yesterday! It's a bigger challenge to eat fresh at work as opposed to having five days off at home to eat how I please. I still ate fresh just not as accessible I suppose. It would be nice if our vending machine in the clinic had fruit and yogurt and fresh stuff, instead of candy, chips, and soda. I work in mental health and it is obvious to me that nutrition has a role in the care of mental health issues but we obviously have not latched on to that particular concept in our workplace offerings. Instead, I must bring food to work every single day or I must make a trip to the grocery store to obtain said fresh fruit and veggies, and this I have to say is a pain in my ass. If only there were a fast food industry for the healthy! Maybe my establishment would be called Sprouts and it would run like a McDonald's with nothing but fresh whole foods for sale on the dollar menu....maybe someday! In other news, I've lost another two pounds, which is surprising because I ate about four pounds of apples today, go figure.

Day 329 and 330 Woo Hoo 35 Days Left!

I can't believe I  only have 35 days left of this challenge, it's gone by really fast! Yesterday, I had  a  fabulous day, food wise, I ate fresh all day and I felt great. Yesterday, I found a new green, grown here in Oklahoma that I've never heard of before now. It's called Mizuna and it's a kind of peppery green, used in salads or cooked like spinach. Tonight, I cooked it and added a little Romano cheese and it was delicious! I also had Brussels Sprouts, broccoli, and avocado salad, soooo good! Tomorrow, it's back to work and the countdown to Christmas is on. I'm trying to think of some fun, healthy recipes for work parties and such. I felt pretty good today, when I went to my Grandmother's, everyone was still trying to finish all of the Thanksgiving food and groaning about how crappy they all felt, thankfully, I was not one of them. I'm really excited about ending the New Year in a different way than last year.

Day 328 Visit From The Fat Fairy

Today, I celebrated my iron clad self control over food, by purchasing a smaller pair of pants at Old Navy. I actually bought them, thinking that I wouldn't be able to wear them for another month or so, but having arrived home to try them on, I discovered that they fit perfectly! I thought I heard a noise last night, outside my window and now I know it was probably the fat fairy coming to steal another pound from my hips. I almost can't wait for Christmas cookies just so I can stare them down with the old stink eye and not blink. I've already ordered my mom not to fill my stocking with candy this year, because I'm going into the New Year, healthier than I've been in a really long time and I want to keep it that way. Besides, if I want to return to school and change my major to public health education, I should probably be healthy myself. Tomorrow is going to be a great day, I'm starting off with my juicer, some carrots, apples, and some ginger, can't wait till morning!

Day 327 If I Had A Superpower, It Would Be Willpower

Wow, today I managed to stay within range for my daily calorie and fat goals, not bad for Thanksgiving day! My Brussels Sprouts were really yummy and the carrots weren't bad either. I filled up on vegetables and didn't have much room for stuffing, pie, and mashed potatoes. What really made me happy was that my mom stuck to her own plan and copied my 3/4 vegetable rule. Everyone loved the carrot cookies and my Grandmother wants to make them for her neighbors. I sampled most of the side dishes and along with the veggies, and felt extremely full and satisfied. My mom made me taste a bite of the peanut butter custard pie and it was really fabulous, for a tiny spoon full of sunshine. I have conquered the biggest food day of the year, I will prevail, only one month left of this challenge!

Day 325 and 326 From Scratch Pumpkin Perfection

This week is turning out to be pretty good! Yesterday, someone must have decided that they didn't feel like working all day on Wednesday and so closed the whole operation down, me included... giving me a five day vacation! Well, it was actually just half a day today, but I took the whole day and ran with it. Yesterday I went grocery shopping and finalized what I'm making for Thanksgiving; I've decided that this is a good opportunity to strong arm my family into eating healthier. I'm making honey spiced carrots and roasted Brussels sprouts with shallots and garlic. Yes, just veggies but manipulated  in a really scrumptious way. Today, my mom taught me how to make pie crust and I made a pumpkin pie from scratch! I probably won't be making many pies but the info is good and I could even make a whole wheat pie crust at some point. Here are the pictures of my first from scratch creation! I also made carrot raisen cookies but I forget to photograph them for blog and show. Also not shown is the peanut butter custard pie, of which I will avoid tommorrow, having hit my 20 pound weight loss goal today!

Day 324 I Can Taste The Fake

Today, I have to remind myself that "nothing lasts forever...even cold November rain". It is straight up yucky outside and I do not approve. Tomorrow, I'm buying black beans and chili fixing's for my pre-Thanksgiving groceries, need something warm and filling. For lunch today, I stopped by my mom's house for lunch and came away shocked by a can of soup. Since I've been eating pretty clean lately, I was surprised when I had a can of Campbell's minestrone soup to find how disgustingly salty it was. I almost couldn't eat it, it had such massive amounts of sodium in it. I guess I'm more tuned in to the additives in food these days, you can clearly taste them, if you're not used to them. I no longer like the taste of store bought juice either, it's way too sweet after drinking freshly juiced fruits and vegetables. If we could all go back to clean eating for a minute, perhaps we could forget what trash tastes like and raise our standards of goodness.

Day 322 and 323 Don't Need A Plan B

Well, this week its time to face the Thanksgiving monster and I have a solid plan. I plan on making fresh vegetable dishes to take to our dinner, as well as lots of fresh veggie appetizers. This is not so much for everyone else as it is for me, yep I'm kind of selfish that way. The way I figure it, everyone will bring enough of the other stuff, that I shouldn't feel bad about taking care of what I need. I will have one plate and will have one small piece of dessert, which I plan on making so that I know exactly what it contains (sweet potato pie). This weekend has been devoted to this plan and by George, it will work! I am not throwing away all of the hard work I've done to stay healthy and there is no reason to throw it all away for a holiday, I don't really dig anyway.

Day 320 and 321 Unmatched Willpower And The Potluck

Sometimes its really a challenge to eat everything I need to eat in a day. Yesterday, I had Naked juice, salads, vegetables, tofu, and about 10 different healthy whole foods, but I still did not meet my calorie intake or vitamin requirements. Today, I am really off because of a potluck at work, not because I pigged out, but because I was disciplined about what I chose. One co-worker made homemade white bread, which I thought would put me over the top fat wise but did not. With the bread, I made a cheese sandwich  with lots of leaf lettuce and tomatoes, I had whole wheat pasta, tortilla chips with salsa, and about 1/4 of a slice of carrot cake. I was full and happy, but I was still lacking in vegetables and fruit. My other choices were brownies, potato salad, a really yummy looking cheesy casserole thing, and cookies, I think I chose well. For dinner, I had vegetable, tofu spring rolls with peanut sauce and a salad, from Whole foods. The problem is that I enter everything I eat into a database that adds up what I have eaten and what I need to eat in terms of nutrients and it gives me a letter grade. I have never gotten an A+ I have gotten an A, but never an A+, I try different combinations, but there is always something off! Even when I juiced something was off in terms of fat intake and carbohydrates, I want an A+. When I try to add something like good fats, it throws everything the other direction.  If I were to eat all of the vegetables and fruit required, I would either have to go back to juicing or just devote my days to chewing on veggies. I need a better plan, maybe juicing twice a day and devoting dinner to protein, fats, and calcium. I am on a mission to find the perfect balance of whole foods, I will prevail!

Day 319 I Vote Butter Be Named A Vegetable

Today, I really want something warm and totally unhealthy to eat, but I will not give in to my craving for buttery biscuits and fried potato wedges. I also miss in this moment, personal pan pizzas with olives, onions, and mushrooms.....so dreamy, it's all about the crust. The only thing about a predominatly vegan lifestyle, is the absence of savory, greasy things. I think that's why I love Brussels sprouts so much, because they come pretty close to junk food when you roast them and then there are sweet potatoes, so lovely and starchy! But what vegetable can replace warm, yeasty bread with sweet butter and cinnamon? It doesn't exist, but I will continue to search for that level of deliciousness in every vegetable that crossees my plate.

Day 317 and Day 318 Pretend Raw Food

Today, I did a semi raw day, which included an avocado mixed with salsa and black beans, with about four cups of broccoli as my dip vehicle, some spinach, and apples. For dinner, I had veggie sushi and this was all perfectly fine until I decided to try a raw, sprouted, pumpkin bar from Whole Foods. Normally, I really dig sesame seeds and nuts, but this thing was from the depths of raw, vegan hell. It was dehydrated so it was very, very tough and chewy. It took me a good 15 minutes to eat it and I felt as though I was tugging on a piece of linoleum, gross. I feel that if a person is going to eat raw foods, they should not try and manipulate foods into being raw, just eat it naturally fresh! Yesterday was mostly a juice day but I was full and happy, I kept it simple and whole, that's my philosophy. I think that people try and tamper with things too much, if it works, why dehydrate it? I may as well have eaten a handful of pumpkin seeds, it would have made me just as happy and been just as healthy.

Day 316 Food Against Germs

It's coming, my yearly war with Strep-throat, or is it? These are my tools of battle and I will win before it even begins! I have combined four carrots, two apples, a large piece of ginger, and a cup of raw cranberries. I have also already downed a very hot cup of Green tea with ginger, made with three bags, it was pretty strong stuff. Here's hoping that I can kick it without anti-biotics! I truly believe that everything we need to cure ourselves is available in nature and now, I'm going to prove it, bring on the Strep germs!

Day 315 Bored With Chewing

So, I've started to miss juicing and bought some carrots, apples, and cranberries today. It's too late tonight to make anything but, first thing in the morning, I'm back on for a couple of days. I can for sure feel a difference when I'm eating raw vegetables as opposed to cooked vegetables. I'm still losing weight and I feel OK, but I don't have that electric surge of energy from the juice. Earlier tonight, I once again made Brussels sprouts, but I did something a little different, I added chopped up apples to be roasted with the sprouts. It was really good and I think that adding chopped walnuts would be fantabulous as well. Sigh...I can't wait for morning. So, Christmas is coming and I'm thinking of buying my parents a membership to the Oklahoma Food Cooperative, a local organization, where you can buy all kinds of foods from local farmers. I think it's a great Christmas present and others should check it out in their own communities, keep it fresh and local people!

Day 314 Lucky Me

Today, I found out that my car is only going to cost another 250.00 or so to fix and lucky me, it's going to be a Christmas present from my parents. I was off work today and stuck at home due to lack of transpo, so I got my nap time on and later made some sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and sweet corn on the cob. That's good eats right there. I've been looking at recipes for Thanksgiving and Christmas and found a cake that I mentioned a long time ago but never made it. It's a Cassata cake, or a Ricotta cake, made with marzipan and jeweled fruit. It's so pretty, it would make a great Christmas potluck cake for work. I'm also thinking of roasting some vegetables with chestnuts, I want to do something different and special, because green bean casserole is good, but not very festive. If anyone has any good holiday vegetable recipes, let me know, I'm open to the weird and the never seen.

Day 313 All I Have To Say

Today was a great day, until my car broke down for the 6th time in 7 months. I am not in the mood to eat or type, maybe tomorrow will be better.

Day 312 Purple Potatoes Have Landed

Way back when I began this challenge, I found information on purple potatoes, but I had never see any in the purple flesh, well I found some! They are definitely going to be one of my top seven vegetables. First of all, they are a lovely violet color, when you slice them, they're tiny, and soft to cut. I made them with olive oil and sesame seeds, as I've been doing with other vegetables lately and I love them! They taste a little like red potatoes, which I'm usually not fond of, but these were amazing! I also had steamed green beans with almonds, so a good dinner all around. Tomorrow is the last day of work this week! I'm so excited! After that, it's a countdown to Thanksgiving, to which I will contribute purple potatoes, roasted Brussels sprouts, and caramelized carrots. I'm also thinking about making the herbed goat cheese log, but I haven't made up my mind yet. The holidays are coming, woo hoo!

Day 310 and 311 Quakes and Peas

Well, nothing exciting happened yesterday except a really good salad and another earthquake here in Oklahoma. Tonight, I made the crispy garbanzo beans with sesame seeds, which I found on Foodista and am super full. They were good, except, I wanted to use the raw chick peas, I found at Whole Foods, a couple of weeks ago, but they were out. At the time, I only bought a handful to throw in the juicer, but I tasted one before and they were really yummy! I think the raw ones will work better because they don't have the squishy moisture, which keeps them from crisping completely. After I ate the chick peas, I scraped the roasted, leftover sesame seeds from the pan and ate those too. Tonight, I am expecting another earthquake, since they only seem to be happening after the sun goes down, so I'm ready, got my pillow to cover my head, I'm ready.

Day 309 Roasted Beets Are Not Horrible

This weekend has been weird, first there was the 5.6 earthquake last night which just about scared the beets out of me and Daylight savings time is kinda screwing with my mojo today. I haven't been extremely hungry today, as I have been working on some pretty important stuff. for dinner, I made roasted beets, roasted turnips, a black bean, peppers, and corn mix, and some freshly squozen almond butter for dessert. I don't expect anyone to understand this conglomeration, I just expect you to accept it, without question. I have to say that I have tried pickled beets, I have tried them raw, I have tried them as Borscht, and now, I have eaten them roasted and I think I like them best this way.Tomorrow is an exciting day because it is the beginning of a four day work week, I'm praising Jesus on the inside, lemme tell ya! Next weekend, I am going to finish this very important super secret project(actually some of you already know), which I have been working on for months now and I hope to share it with you all soon, can't wait, stay tuned!

Day 308 I Have Once Again Conquered Fudge Pie

I have just found some great holiday recipes on Foodista and I wish today were a holiday because I would make a cheese log right now. Actually, one of the recipes could be a daily thing, it was for crispy chick peas with sesame seeds, yum! I'm well on my way to finding my top seven, this could be one of them! The cheese log was for goat cheese logs rolled in herbs, a change up from my mom's usual chili pepper cheese logs, I can't wait to start making stuff!! Today, my mom made a fudge pie and some brownies, I did not partake. I instead ate an apple and a veggie sandwich made of Rye, avocado, jalapenos, tomatoes, and red onions, it was divine. Tonight, I'm having bi-colored corn and another baked sweet potato, today is a good day, full of health and warmth.

Day 306 and 307 Sketti Squash Success

I'm happy to say that I have found an addition to my favorite vegetables repertoire! Last night was the same sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts, delicious but getting a little worn and I needed a little change up. Tonight, I decided to try spaghetti squash and I was pleasantly surprised by the vegetable it's self, not really impressed with my version of the recipe. The squash strings reminded me a little of grass noodles with their texture and chewiness. I didn't really know what to add and didn't want to use canned spaghetti sauce, so I went original. I added coconut milk for a little sweet, cayenne for a little spice, green olives for salt, and garlic just because I could. I was not thrilled with this combination, but I will continue to try other additions because the squash was quite nice. I saw a recipe earlier with Feta and black olives, which sounds good, but like I said, I'll keep looking. It would be nice to have seven favorite vegetables so that I have a week long menu of alternative to bread, cheese, and pasta.

Day 305 Next Dream Stop, Click's Steakhouse

Today, was another agonizing restaurant day for me. I went to Pawnee, which is about 1000 miles from nowhere in the middle of not a lot, but when I arrived, my co-workers were headed out to lunch, so I tagged along. Apparently, this restaurant, Click's has been featured on some cooking channel or something. I don't know how the food tastes, but it was super busy and smelled like the waiting room to get into heaven. I watched a lady across the way, eat a very pretty burger with a big pile of fries, all around me, the people of Pawnee were living it up. When I left, I passed by a display of meringue pies, so high, they looked like pineapple tops. When my challenge is over and I get to eat out twice a month, I'm going to Click's, yes sir that's where I'm headed! Try and stop me!

Day 304 I Just Fell Off The Turnip Truck

Tonight, I had turnips and I have to say, I'm not a fan, they may even knock the beets out of place in terms of most hated foods. I roasted them, (having nixed the plan of a temporary raw diet after the juice fast) and they were not good. I also roasted a small sweet potato and it was fantastic, which is weird because I don't usually prefer sweet potatoes, unless they are covered in marshmallow and nuts. Perhaps, I will try another route with the turnips, I've been told that you can mash them like potatoes, perhaps they will be a tad more pleasant that way. I'm kind of disappointed, I was looking to add another vegetable to my growing list of favorites, there are only a few spots left! In other news, my mom wants me to help her bake cookies for some church contest, the prize is 50.00, I could use 50.00 but not the temptation of falling off the sugar wagon and eating a dozen chocolate cherry whoopee pies (those are cookies). Then again, it could be the ultimate test of my super human willpower, we'll see.

Day 302 and 303 I Feel Like A Skinny Rainbow

Yesterday, I began to integrate raw vegetables back into my diet, along with the juicing. For lunch I had an avocado with chopped tomato. This morning, I had carrot and apple juice and for lunch, I had a green machine juice, and for dinner, I had Brussels sprouts and mushrooms. I plan to continue juicing for breakfast on a regular basis, because I can get more than my required vegetables and fruit for the day and I feel really great! I'm really glad I did this, I feel re-energized and I will for sure do at least a three-five day juice fast every month. The Brussels sprouts were on my mind all week long, I was seriously jonesing for them, I missed them so much. I was so relieved to have something to chew on again! The biggest challenge was the crappy juicer, I am defiantly saving up for a Breville, this Black and Decker is a pain and a half to operate and to clean! I need a juicer that will allow me to drop in whole apples and not waste time cutting them into tiny pieces, I'm a busy girl, I don't have time for all that! In conclusion, I will probably finish out the week eating raw and cooked vegetables, along with juice and begin to bring back grains and beans next week, it looks like a party's about to bust out up in my kitchen!

Day 301 If I Keep Juicing I May Hit You With A Pumpkin

Even though I've lost another pound, I'm really glad this juicing fast is almost over! I really crave something warm right now. I'm super excited that I'm going to get to roast the turnips soon, anyone have any suggestions or recipes? Today, I spent about 45 minutes trying to get around the Halloween Broohaha going on down the street, to get to the grocery store and back. All of the parking spaces were taken and only one exit was available at both the regular grocery store and at Whole Foods, when I finally found an open space, some teenager in a stupid costume, waved her friend in, who went around me and stole it! This juice fast has made me seriously grumpy, because I then told a cop how stupid he was for shutting sown the entire street (I know it was his fault). For reasons of sanity and more, I will be thrilled to chew food again, I just don't think I can tolerate much more of this non-sense.

Day 300 Pumpkin Face

Day 300 is not a fun day, I feel really cold and gross and I watched my co-workers eat yummy restaurant food, followed by red velvet cake. It kind of makes me feel better to know that at least my blood is probably cleaner than theirs right now, it's the small things. I thought the detox part of my fast was over but it is for sure not, I feel like I'm getting the Flu and I'm also most certainly turning orange. The highlight of my day was leaving the stupid restaurant to peruse the farmer's market in Okmulgee, I bought two sacks full of vegetables for 6.00 and I have something wondrous to end my fast with. I bought turnips, which I have never eaten and I'm going to roast them, as was suggested.
That's about it, aside from losing another pound, woo hoo!

Day 299 Final Countdown Is On

Wow, day 299 feels kind of momentous, tomorrow, I will only have 65 days left of this non-sense, only to be replaced with more non-sense. Right now, at the tail end of my challenge, I am smack in the middle of another challenge, I am on day 5 of my juice fast and it's getting a little monotonous. Tonight, I created something a little different by mixing coconut milk with carrots and mangoes, it wasn't bad but it could have used a little spice, maybe some nutmeg. It's funny but the hunger has gone away, I just feel really energized! I do wish I had something warm to eat, like some soup or something, next week I think I'll make some butternut squash soup, I can't wait!!!!

Day 297 and 298 Real Vegetables

Well, I'm on day 4 of my juice fast and things are going very well! Yesterday, I kept waiting for what the blogosphere deems funky tongue, a phenomenon in which the toxins in your body leave through the skin and tongue on the third day. It's supposed to give you bad breath, but perhaps I'm just not that dirty, my breath smells fine. I've lost two and a half pounds since Sunday, in addition to the weight I lost prior to juicing for a grand total of 14 pounds! My skin looks different today, kind of rosy and well nourished, that is for real a plus, I'm not one to argue with good skin bonuses. I do think I'm not going to be so creative in my concoctions though, some thing are just not good together, tonight was mustard greens, red cabbage, cucumber, carrots, onion, and garlic, and some other stuff. I know it's for the greater good of a healthy body, so down the hatch it goes. My last words of the night are for the girl who says that she eats "real" vegetables, you know who you are. Here's a picture of my "real" vegetables, that pile is as tall as you are my dear.

Day 296 Call Me Sloshy

Uuuhhhg, I am so full of beets and other various vegetables, I don't think I can blog about it. OK, I'll just say this, avocados do not belong in juice, peppers do not belong in juice, and 99% of the time, beets are just best left out of everything. I did find something yummy today, at Whole Foods, they were unhulled Garbanzo beans. Aside from the gallons of juice floating around in my belly, I tasted one before I juiced it and it was stunningly delicious. I'm not sure if it was just that good or if I was just grateful for something to chew on, either way, I'm going to buy some more of those. Also, I lost a half a pound over night...go me.

Day 295 That's A Spicy Big Gulp

Today started out in a really juicetastic way, I had an apple, cranberry, carrot thingy for breakfast and was quite happy and full. I was at my Grandmother's for lunch and so, had to wait to get home for round two of my juiceathon. I went shopping for additional veggies for tonight's dinner and was really anxious to try everything out. I went a little over board, with the Serrano peppers. I added six of them to my concoction, not smart. I could not throw it away because it consisted of 1/2 a beet, 4 apples, 4 cups of Kale, 1 carrot, 2 tomatoes, a clove of garlic, and 3 cups of red cabbage, way too much food to throw out because of a little heat, so I drank it. First of all, I've been reading all day about using a small amount of raw beet because the detox effect can make you nauseous, which it did, only I can't tell if it's because of the beets or the outrageously hot liquid I consumed in the name of good health. I also read that afterward you may feel like you have the flu because of the toxins swimming around in your blood, which I do, I hope this is worth it, I feel like shizzle.

Day 294 Monster Veggie Consumption

Tonight, I did it, I bought a juicer! I started to buy the GE, which I researched last night but found a Black and Decker for 20.00 cheaper, so with the 20.00 I saved, I invested in vegetables. For dinner tonight, I had two apples, twenty cranberries, a stalk of celery, a carrot, some kale, a yellow squash, and a cucumber, all juiced up, it was actually pretty good and looked like a pretty rainbow in the measuring cup.
The only thing I don't like about my new juicer is that it's a pain to take apart and clean, I will probably make big batches of juice to drink throughout the day at work. Also, it looks like a lot of vegetables on that plate but it only made about two cups of juice, still it was the most fun I've had on a Saturday night since riding along with the police back in Indiana!

Day 293 Puttin The Squeeze On The Juicer Search

I have spent the last two hours looking at juicers, reading reviews, and comparing prices. Obviously I'm not going to buy the 400.00 Breville juicer or the 14.00 citrus squeezer, which is not really a juicer at all. I'm looking for something in between and I think I've found it, the GE juicer for 49.00. Most of the reviews were positive, so I may go and find it tomorrow. I know that I will use it multiple times a day so 50.00 is a good investment in my health. I am really excited about making some different concoctions, maybe kale and apples or mango ginger pear, I don't know, I may go a little crazy. Tonight I had butternut squash, corn, and black beans, it was lovely (not juiced, of course)! I know I said yesterday I was going to start my juice fast today, but I am not yet prepared, perhaps tomorrow will be the day.

Day 292 I Don't Even Get Paid To Say I Love Naked Juice

Today, is a small news day, I had steel cut oatmeal with raisins for breakfast, along with a egg and veggie tortilla wrap. For lunch I had my usual Naked Juice, but today they were out of Green Machine, so I had the red one, with all the berries in it....I told you this was small news. I'm pretty sure I'm just doing juice all day tomorrow, but I'm going to Whole Foods where they don't run out of things they're supposed to have like Green Machine juice. I need my green machine! I may just drink juice all weekend. I'm shrinking down, whilst still getting uber nutrients, I feel pretty good, everyone should get a naked juice for lunch.

Day 290 and 291 Rocking the Sprouts

Oh my, I've just eaten my weight in Brussels sprouts and mushrooms! I ate like a pound and a half for only about 150 calories, good thing I got all of my fats in earlier today. I have discovered that there is just no way to eat all of your vegetables in a day, unless you juice them, it's too much to eat! Yesterday was an unplanned eating day and it did not go as well as usual, which means that I cannot ever NOT be vigilant about what I put in my mouth. I didn't eat badly, I just didn't get enough to eat and I'm really trying to eat three meals a day. The good news is that I have lost 12 pounds in the past few weeks, go me! I guess I'll try for another eight pounds and see if I want to continue. Also, since I've been eating really clean lately, my nails are growing, which is weird because I can never grow my nails out. Here's to loose jeans and clean food!

Day 289 Lemme Borrow That Juicer

Today, I had another Green Machine Naked juice, but I'm a little annoyed. I would expect the green machine drink to be chock full of vegetables but it appears to be mostly fruit juice with some grass thrown in. I want, I need, I desperately covet a new juicer to remedy this situation. The drinks have no added sugar but still have a ton of natural sugar. I want vegetable juice, with maybe just a hint of sweet. If I had a juicer, I could make kale/beet/garlic juice concoctions, which I'm sure would not be all sugary and diabetes inducingly delicious. I don't need delicious, I need healthy! Any ideas on good juicer brands? I have no idea what I'm looking for, I just know that I'm not looking for one of those citrus squeeze kind of things. I'm looking for the king of the juicer jungle and I would be glad to test drive, review, and advertise for any company who wants to lend me one (wink, wink)

Day 288 I Rock A Pot Of Soup

Today, I have decided on my new challenge for 2012, but I cannot tell you just yet, I will say that it will be huge! It will be much bigger than 365 days sans fast food.....don't you wish you knew? Tonight, for dinner, I decided to go a new route with the brussell sprouts and I'm making soup, generally I'm not a soup girl but I'm running out of ideas for my favorite vegetable. I added sprouts, squash, and sweet potatoes to potato leek soup. I'm not really sure what a leek is, but I'm OK with that as long as it is not related to the beet family. I'm calling it So Long Summer soup because I'm so happy that Fall is almost kind of here. Oh my, how do I type and slurp sunshine at the same time? My momma would be proud, because I rock the cool weather soup, really someone besides me should taste this!

Day 287 Reflections on Veggies

Well, I'm closing in on the end of this challenge and I'm wondering if it is possible to eliminate fast food forever? I mean 287 days is pretty much the same as eternity, I'm pretty sure it could be done. I would not eliminate restaurant food all together, as I have done for this challenge, but I would be very choosy in my selection of eateries. I just don't see any reason to ever put another McDonald's hash brown into my mouth or another Sonic Mozzarella cheese stick either, it's just not food. I can't believe how much I've come to love and depend on some of my new discoveries, such as brussel sprouts and squash. I look forward to eating them as much as I ever did biscuits and gravy from DQ. I do miss going out to eat with my friends and family and I will be grateful to have that back, but like I said, I will be very selective in what I choose to eat, come January 2nd.

Day 286 Brussel Sprout OD

I am truly grateful for the end of the week and plan to make this weekend last until at least Thanksgiving, where I will then skip right over to Christmas break. It's pretty bad, when you dread Monday morning as early as Friday night. Well, food wise, today was fair to middlin', for lunch I had black eyed peas and a Naked juice protein smoothie. For dinner, I had brussel sprouts and potatoes. I wonder if I maybe there is such a thing as too many brussel sprouts? It seems wrong that they are so good and so healthy, there has to be a downside. Tomorrow is my Grandmother's garage sale and I'm supposed to bring some shizzle with me, but I have labeled not one single item! Now that I'm full and happy, I may get on that. That's about it in my world!

Day 284 and 285 Just Wait Eaters!!

Below, are two pictures from lunch, yesterday...it's not MY lunch, but it is my unwrapped silverware in the second picture. Everyone knows that Mexican is my favorite food ever, everyone also knows that I'm closing in on the end of this challenge, but apparently, not everyone cares, as evidenced below. One of my very dear co-workers insisted on Mexican yesterday, but "comforted" me in the knowledge that she would buy me anything I wanted for lunch from the gas station, after I watched her eat her smelly, cheesy, Mexican meal. She did buy me lunch, a string cheese and a granola bar.

Co-worker's lunch:

My Lunch:

That's not all! Today, she forced me to enter yet another greasy eating mecca and I watched her eat a Reuben sandwich, it's true I don't eat Corned beef but it hurt all the same. This blogs for you Emily, I'm going to wait until you are fully ensconced in a serious diet to seek my revenge!

Day 283 I Got Nothin But A Hunger Pain

Today, I believe was the longest day in my young life, I'm tired and hungry. It is now three hours past my dinnertime cutoff of 6:00 but I'm going for it. I have talked much, driven far, and eaten little, I have nothing left to say or to ponder via my keyboard. Good night all.

Day 281 and 282 Enchilada Dreams

Yesterday was pretty much like today, fruit, vegetables, grains, beans, just in different combinations and on different plates. I'm so bored with being healthy, I wish I could have a giant plate of cheese enchiladas with rice and beans, and a large, fizzy full sugar Coke. After my unhealthy dinner, I would have a cigarette, maybe three, I would prop my fat legs on the table and yell at the waitress to bring me a plate of sopapillas and a Margarita, yeah that's the stuff of dreams. If I were on my way out or on death row or something, that's what I would order, can't think of a better send off. Maybe tomorrow I will find a new way to cook mushrooms and squash but tonight, I'm living in my head.

Day 280 Close Call

Today, I realized that my 365 day challenge may have saved me yesterday, perhaps at least from witnessing something traumatic. Where I live, there is a Wal-greens on the corner, I go there sometimes two to three times a week because it is the closest store of any kind to my apartment, aside from the creepy convenience store, located in my complex. Like I said, these days I stop maybe two or more times a week, on my way home from work. Before my challenge, I stopped in almost every day for my going home soda, candy, and junk food and generally about the same time, depending on my schedule, around 4:30 or 5:00. Yesterday, I needed to go to the store, but wanted to get fresh vegetables and of course Wal-green's does not carry fresh veggies, so instead of stopping in the drug store for my usual bread, milk, or cheese, I turned left, instead of passing the Wal-green's parking lot. At 4:30, a man was shot in front of his children in that parking lot, at the same time, I was headed in the opposite direction, close call. The man is still alive but in critical condition, such a scary world! I think it's time to move.

Day 279 Fried Kool-aid, Nuff Said

Tonight, I had the best dinner, roasted asparagus, mushrooms, corn, and peppers, in a nice neat little package. I'm really into vegetable packets right now, I just pick whatever veggie I want to eat and wrap it in foil with a bit of oil, good stuff! For lunch I had a green Naked Juice and an avocado, I feel so healthy I could in theory, run a marathon. Tomorrow is the state fair, where I am going to eat absolutely nothing. I mean, I would love nothing more than to chow down on fried snickers bars and fried Twinkies and fried Kool-aid, but I will not, I am too strong for that kind of foolishness. I will not put trash into my body, at least not until January. I also bought a scale today, I have not owned a scale in probably ten years, but at this moment in time, I am dead serious about staying healthy...no doubt.

Day 277 and 278 Someone Stop This Veggie Train

Oh my, so happy that this week is finally drawing to a close, it has been a rough one! Yesterday, I ate so many raw vegetables, I felt like I had eaten a large pizza only not as tasty. I've been drinking Naked juice and Odowalla juice, since I don't have a juicer, but I'm on the lookout for one! Oh by the way, I still have a brand new dutch oven to trade for something, anybody wanna trade a juicer? I'm not yet doing all juice, I'm eating a truckload of grindage, I'm kinda tired of chewing. It's funny that you have to eat so much more when you're eating raw foods, I feel like I never stop eating! Tomorrow is going to be low-key and I really hope that a low key weekend follows, I am ready to kick back and relax. Here's to a fabulous weekend and another jug of broccoli juice.www.fastfoodboycott.blogspot.com

Day 276 My Weight In Fruit

OK, so I haven't started the juice fast yet, but I did have two Naked Juice drinks for lunch, which was the equivalent of something like 5 apples, 1 banana, 25 blackberries, some grapes, 1/4 mango, and a bunch of grass. It was actually pretty good! I drank two because I needed the calories to hit my number and I was full half way through the first one. For dinner, I had broccoli, tomatoes, peas, and a red pepper, I'm pretty sure I got all of my nutrients for the day, plus my mom gave me a gummy vitamin earlier! I'm rockin' the healthy lifestyle here, now I just need to find a no impact exercise option, which according to sawbones is the elliptical, swimming, and the bike. I really miss the treadmill, it was my favorite and we have now been separated for the duration...sigh.

Day 275 Juicy Juicerson

Wow, I just finished watching Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead and I am super inspired to do the reboot juice fast, now I just need to find a juicer! The dudes in the documentary drank juice every meal for 60 days and lost a ton of weight. I'm so down for another challenge, I probably would just check out a ten day fast, since the holidays are coming up, maybe I'll do ten days a month through the holidays and a sixty day after the new year. I don't want to fall into my old fast food ways, after the new year so I need a plan, perhaps this is it, Lord knows I need something difficult and unfun to challenge myself with. OK, I'm going to start looking for a juicer, this week, I'm ready to rock!

Day 273 and 274 Fruity Kind Of Weekend

This has been the shortest weekend on record! I have been working non-stop, taking care of business, and trying to eat right. For the most part I think I've done pretty good and I've been super productive. Yesterday I bought the best fruit and that's what I had for dinner, along with brussell sprouts, yep mango, grapes, and brussell sprouts, don't judge, they were delicious.
Today I weighed and I really do prefer my grandmother's scales to my mom's because hers say I've lost 10 pounds as opposed to the five at my mom's. I've been so busy today that I haven't had much time to eat, I'm going to be working until bedtime and then up at 5:00 to get ready for the week, it's only Sunday and I'm exhausted.

Day 272 Ain't No Doughnut Gonna Take Me Down

Today, I had the opportunity to come face to face with my one weakness, pastries. I love doughnuts more than I love most people and today, I had to pick up food for someone, only to be faced with long johns, fritters, and cinnamon rolls, they smelled like what I imagine angels to smell like. I didn't of course have any of the glaze covered beauties , I stuck to my usual lunch, a hummus sandwich, a granola bar, and a spicy V8. Tonight, I had a salad, with a ton of roasted garlic and butternut squash, it was fantabulus and my breath smells like a big ol bulb of stinking rose, good thing I live solo. Tomorrow is the Tulsa State fair and I'm not going, the only reason to go is for the food and that's out of the question, so I'm staying here, to catch up on paperwork, blah. Perhaps I'll treat myself to a new book, if I complete my neverending stack of stupid.

Day 270 and 271 Winter Garden Coming Soon

Today, I discovered a little surprise, my mom planted more squash after the heat wave and I picked some for dinner! Yesterday and today, I have continued my portion controlled madness and I'm not even hungry! In fact, I weighed at my mom's house earlier and I've lost 3 pounds! Yesterday I was vigilant and stopped myself before going out the door, without breakfast, planning ahead helps greatly. Tonight, before my squash picking adventure, I stopped by the grocery store because I was craving brussel sprouts, so I had those with the squash. I just cut everything up, drizzled a little oil, sprinkled some garlic pepper, and wrapped it in aluminum foil, it was seriously the best dinner I've had in awhile, not kidding. So, it's almost Fall and I've talked my mom into planting a winter garden, garlic, brussel sprouts, carrots, and I don't know what else, but I'm excited, I love growing stuff! Stay tuned for more veggie adventures.

Day 268 and 269 Fat And Happy Wins The Race

Well, here I am on another double up blog day, I've become increasingly resistant to this challenge in regard to the writing it all down part. Yesterday and today, I stuck to my new pared down eating plan and I'm really trying to get used to less is more. I'm going to lose ten pounds before New Years, so that I can end this thing with a bang. I've been eating less bread and have made myself eat breakfast and lunch at reasonable times, which helps with snacking, I don't have a scale so I can't obsess over it. I hate to look at labels and yesterday, I looked at the label on my tortilla chips, there are 140 calories in 7 chips! Holy monkeyshine, that's not good! I love chips and salsa and they have gotten me through many challenge nights, when I didn't want to cook, what will now be my salsa vehicle? I hate looking at calories and carbs and all of that nonsense, paying attention sucks, so does self-discipline....uuuhhg!

Day 267 I Thought I Was On A Diet... It Was Just A Blog

Generally, I don't diet, I think it's unhealthy as opposed to just being all around mindful of what you eat. So, I'm not calling this a diet, Lord knows I've stripped down my eating in the past year as evidenced in this blog, but here it goes. I'm fat. I need to lose more weight than I have shed just by cutting out fast food and soda, now I need to take it to another level. I'm just going to make a few changes, such as portion sizes, more nutrient dense meals, and less sugar and bread, easy enough. This afternoon, for lunch, I had a tomato, two peaches, a yogurt, and green beans, usually I would probably have a buttery grilled cheese, some chips, a yogurt, and two peaches. I know, not much different , pretty much the same amount of food, just a few tweaks. Oh, yes and I'm cutting out juice, which has become my soda, nothing but water and unsweetened tea, also no eating after 6:30 pm. Done and Done, I'll be half an ass down by Christmas.

Day 266 County Fair Flop

I'm still in weekend lazy mode, so this is going to be short. Today, I went to the county fair, they had two tables of junk, some really bad artwork and the rides were not running. The goats smelled like goats, and I saw not one single carnie, needless to say I did not eat any fair food, there was none. Still it was a pretty good day, I bought a best of Nirvana CD and had a chocolate truffle a while ago, also a drunk guy sitting on the lawn asked me if I wanted a beer, I declined. The weekend is going by way too fast and I need for it to sloooow down immediatly. I'm off to finish reading The Rouge, I got nothing else.

Day 264 and 265 Get In My Belly Food Baby

Woo Hoo! Life is getting back to normal, my car is back in it's space and I am about to hit the grocery store for vittles! Today was a supremely productive day and I'm about to start the most relaxing weekend ever encountered in the span of time and space. I am reading The Rouge on my Kindle, gonna watch the new season episodes of The Office and Parks and Recreation from last night, and I'm going to the Creek county fair tomorrow! sadly, I did not get to make my much anticipated county fair cake, due to the fact that the grocery store was too far away as was my vehicle to gather ingredients. Last night, I didn't get to blog, as I was waaaaayyyyy far away in another town, working until the wee hours of the late work day. I ate mostly cheese and trail mix all day, I was HUNGRY when I finally got home, but alas I was completely smack out of groceries, this I will remedy tonight, gonna be good eats up in my Frigidaire!

Day 263 Buck Wild In Aisle Five

Just a few more hours left and I will be in the black again, my car will be finished by Friday, and the week is almost over! I didn't really have anything substantial to eat today, so tomorrow, I'm going buck wild at the grocery store, can't wait! I'm thinking mushroom frittata and baked sweet potatoes, I'm so hungry just thinking about it. I think I'll start making carrot cookies again this week to share with my new co-workers who will be shadowing me next week. I'm really going to try and be nice to my new office mate, hopefully she'll make it easy and I won't have to run her off the first week. I'm a little short on words at present, so I'm gonna say goodnight and I'm off to shine my kitchen in preparation for next week's cook-a-thon.

Day 262 Shout Out To Cartec and Some Other Stuff

Well, today I'm going to have to give a little plug to the mechanics who made things right. Here's to Cartec Automotive Center in Tulsa, OK, thanks for not charging me a second round of my monthly salary for an additional repair, I am very much grateful for your consideration. Hopefully I will have my car back in the next few days and will again be able to move from place to place uninhibited by funny noises, odd smells, and flashing lights on the dash.
In other news, today, I found myself, standing in a grocery store aisle, absentmindedly stroking a two-liter of soda, I really miss brown, fizzy water, it makes me so happy. Last Sunday,  I was really jealous of the kids who sucked down four two-liters in a matter of minutes, without I'm sure so much as a blip on the old glycemic radar. Someday, my Heaven will be filled with soda fountains and a never ending supply of Coca-Cola products...sigh. Here's another shout out to soda!

Day 260 and 261 Pizza Envy

Just when things were looking up, it's black bean chili for dinner again. Today, I found out what I kinda already knew, that my car is only half fixed after 1700.00 in repairs! What does this mean? If I want the WHOLE thing fixed, it's going to cost an additional 1700.00, unless they have mercy on me and do the right thing by not charging me again for not finishing the job in the first place. Keep in mind that my car is probably only worth about 2000.00 anyway! I'm so frustrated right now and I'm sick of black bean chili! I want to eat something different, something non-economical, something terrible for my health, I'm also sick of water, I want soda! Yesterday, I did my work thing and played laser tag with some co-workers and kids, it was really a lot of fun, however, smelling the Hideaway pizzas on the way to the site was more than I could handle. I watched with wretched envy, the pizza madness around me, it was garlic scented insanity. Here's to better days and smooth running engines.

Day 259 Umm, Who Ate All The Bread?

Today, I haven't even left the house and I've been applying the feed a cold saying to my present blahness. I have actually used all of the dishes in my cabinet, in between naps, I've been eating the day away, I've had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, black bean chili, veggie dogs, Jello, avocados, chips and salsa, and grilled cheese! I think it helped, I'm feeling a little better. Tomorrow I have a work thingy, where there will be real pizza but I will not be participating in that chow down, I probably ate enough to sustain myself for the winter. I guess now, I'm off to the kitchen for a last cup of hot tea and then off to sleep the rest of this cold away, gotta get ready for laser tag tomorrow!

Day 258 Peppers and Puffs

Today, I stayed home and tried to drown my illness in cayenne, salsa, and black bean chili. so far, I'm still sick. I will continue with my slash and burn technique throughout the weekend and hopefully I'll be better for my Sunday work thing. Here's a kicker, pretty much everyone knows how much I loathe orange juice, but I bought some today and I drank the whole thing! I'm pretty sure it's because I can't taste it, so hopefully I've given myself a little vitamin C jolt. I'm going to have another boiling cup of ginger tea and then I'm going to bed, tea and sleep is really the only thing that makes me feel better. Here's to free breathing and the destruction of the common funk, don't forget to wash your hands!

Day 257 Magic Tea

So, I've apparently crossed paths with some little plague filled creature and am now sporting a growing chest cold, great! Ah well, it is merely an opportunity to test drive my natural cures for another season. Right now, I am employing my old standard of green tea with ginger and cayenne, I have added a new element for flavor, jello powder. I ate mango for dinner, hopefully this will add to my immune building experimentation here. I'm taking the day off tomorrow for one, to spare the spread of the funk, for two, I have to take my car back to the shop, as the engine light began flashing, 50 miles from home today. I just paid 1700.00, for that price, I should be driving a cloud with dinner service and piped in angel music. For three, I'm trying to kick this illness before Sunday, which is supposed to be a fun day/work day thingy. OK, wish me luck and wellness.

Day 256 Don't Eat The Cantaloupe!

Tonight I am having fruit for dinner, but NOT cantaloupe! It's so strange that today I was actually telling someone about how dirty cantaloupe is and that you should never eat it, unless you have cleaned and cut it yourself. So, what's all over the news tonight? A flipping cantaloupe recall including the state of Oklahoma, icaramba, good thing I read. Today was a really long day of putting out fires and lunch was a long time coming, I had potatoes and corn, I know, super nutritious right? I'm ready to be done with this challenge, day 365 cannot come soon enough. On Sunday, I have a work thing and am going to have to sit and watch people eat again, uuhhhhgg! I wanna eat restaurant food again!!!

Day 254 and 255 J-E-L-L-O

Woo hoo! I have my car back, and If I hadn't just handed over all of my money to the mechanic, I could drive to the grocery store anytime I want. I did actually go to Whole Foods on the way home and bought spring rolls and tofu for dinner. I love being free! I love my pre-set radio stations, I love my vanilla air fresheners, I love turning the key and actually rolling! Today is a good day, I was feeling lazy last night and had peanut butter and jelly for dinner, not too exciting. This morning, I went to my mom's and she made me a fried egg sandwich with the fresh eggs, my aunt collected, it was delicious and filling and got me through pretty much most of the day. Tonight, I'm contemplating Jello and the time it takes to set up in the fridge, two or three hours probably, I don't know if I have that kind of time, I'm kind of an instant gratification type of girl. Tomorrow is mucho busy, lots of stuff, all to be done before 9:00, probably no time for breakfast, unless it's the Jello, is that legal, jello for breakfast? I deem it so, Jello it is.

Day 253 Pretty Good Sundays Rock

Today was a really great day, I hung out with my mom, went to church, had a nap, met up with my cousins who I never ever see, and now I'm back at home in my big comfy chair. I'm pretty sure that today was supposed to happen just as it did and now I'm looking forward to a great week. Tomorrow night, I think I'm going to make tortilla soup and freeze some of it for future chowage...is that a word? Tonight I'm just kicking back with some iced tea and Sun chips to round out the day. Oh, I did eat cake today, which I promised myself I wouldn't do, due to my blood sugar content being right up there with a pitcher of Country Time lemonade. I think, tonight I'm going to do some research on natural blood sugar cures, I love me some all natural Pagan voodoo solutions....not really into voodoo, just wanted to see if you were paying attention, herbs are not magical, they're practical. Here's to a fabulous Sunday and the best week yet!

Day 252 I Need A Kool-Aid Fetcher

Right now, a giant iced tea, followed by a frozen lemonade, and a liter of full sugar soda would be perfect. I'm so thirsty, I'm waiting for my old fashioned ice trays to solidify to have yet another glass of ice water, probably my tenth one today. It's not hot outside at all, I would just rather consume liquid, rather than food today. I have been uber busy for the last twelve hours, doing laundry and researching stuff, tomorrow is more of the same I suppose. I am intent on Fall cleaning and am contemplating cleaning the baseboards, what can I say, it's a wild and crazy time here at Chez CircusGirl, who wouldn't want to get down with some of this? Sigh...really nothing left to say, I can't see much from my weekend autoless perch, perhaps next week will be more interesting and fulfilling.

Day 250 and 251 Ooops, Sugar And Swearing

I'm back, yesterday I was not in the mood to share my thoughts with the world, but I was willing to share them with the mechanic who STILL has my car! I worked really long and hard yesterday, I forgot to eat lunch and by the time my friend Christie suggested stopping at the grocery store after work, I was all game, I got my dinner on with an Amy's Vegan pizza and some potato salad, I know, doesn't really make sense but it was good. This long day of hunger and hard labor was punctuated by calls from the car place, feeding me bits and pieces of bad news, which is to say that they fixed the wrong part? I'm pretty confused by that one. Anyway, it's probably close to 8:00 and I just finished THIS workday a few minutes ago, thankfully I had time for dinner and some of my step-dad's birthday cake, which was a treat because I've cut down on the sugar in the past couple of weeks. In other news, my recent bout of clean language was ruined yesterday and today, guess I still need to work on cleaning up the old potty mouth, I see serious meditation in my near future.

Day 249 That's No Chunk O' Cheddar

Today, my mom brought me two bags of groceries, which was kind of a moot point, since I had just been to the store moments before she called, thanks nonetheless Mom! For lunch I had my long awaited guacamole, salsa and chips, it had been too long! OK,  I'm about to look a gift horse in the mouth but the cheese must be addressed.  In the grocery bag was a big block of what I took to be cheddar cheese, but was in fact, Velveeta consistency, spongy, off brand, American. If I had been prepared and not expecting something else, perhaps I would not have been so surprised when I broke a chunk off and popped it into my mouth, oh well I can melt it down and make nachos with it I suppose. I am eternally grateful for anything other than beans and peanut butter at the moment! I shouldn't be so snarky about cheese, I can't help it, I love cheese but I do not love processed cheese like foods. I like what I like. OK, done complaining about the kindness bestowed upon me by my loving mother, life could be worse.

Day 248 Fizzy Yogurt, That Ain't Right

Oh my sheesh-a-loo, how long does it take to fix a car? Now that they have the first 1000.00, I guess they think they can take their time....so ready to be able to drive again. Today, I had grapes and cheese, and apple juice that smelled like jailhouse wine and after that a giant jug of Keifer. My mom was kind enough to make white cheddar pimento cheese and to fashion me a sandwich on the hood of her car, she also brought me the Keifer. The sandwich I ate on the way to an appointment, but had to lug the jug of gut tonic around to two different schools, before finally stowing it in my office fridge. How am I supposed to drink a liter of yogurt? It was also a little fizzy and I can't really figure that one out. Oh well, I am grateful to have had lunch and to have been home almost before it hit my belly. Tomorrow is another day, this time it will end in a trip to the market, hooray!!

Day 247 What In The Woot Woot Is A Whoopie Pie

This is going to be the best week ever, I get my car back, I get to grocery shop, and my new co-worker may surface sometime soon, can't wait! Today was the most beautiful, productive day ever, I cleaned my entire house, caught up on some work work, and made plans for this week. The weather is gorgeous, I wish it would stay like this forever, it's like Fall already!!! On the food front, I can't say that there's much going on there, I walked to the little complex store today and bought apple juice, it was the best apple juice I've ever had, after drinking nothing but water for the past few days. Tomorrow will be tricky, I have ten dollars left before payday and I'm rapidly running out of bread, I've been saving the last of the pasta, which should last me through tomorrow night and then I will be home free again. I need everything, I'm out of oil, butter, flour, sugar, milk, cereal, everything. I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait, should a person really be this excited about shopping for staples? My step dad's birthday is this week and my mom is making Whoopee pies, whatever those are, I won't be eating any, as I'm trying not to consume obvious sweets like cakes and cookies, I hope I can hold out!
